Connect your AI

Your AI reaches your library through MCP, an open standard that gives an AI access to tools. You need this address and to log in once:

https://docta.dk/mcp
Tested on claude.ai in the browser, paid plan, 9 October 2026

Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop)

You add Docta as a custom connector on claude.ai.

  1. Log in to claude.ai and open Settings → Connectors. (Anthropic's help pages also call it Customize → Connectors.)
  2. Click Add custom connector. Name: Docta. URL: https://docta.dk/mcp. Click Add.
  3. Click Connect. Our sign-in page on docta.dk opens: enter your email, open the link we send, and approve access.
  4. In a chat: click + below the text box → Connectors, and switch Docta on.

The approval page shows the name the app gave itself. Every app you've approved is listed under My account → Connected apps, where you can remove it.

Plan. This needs a Claude plan that allows custom connectors. Anthropic's help pages say the Free plan allows one, and Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise allow more; on Team and Enterprise an owner of the organisation must add it first. We've tested it on a paid plan, not on the Free plan. If you can't add a connector, use a personal token.

Claude Desktop. A connector you add on claude.ai belongs to your Claude account, so it should also show up in Claude Desktop, as Anthropic says. We haven't tested that.

Claude Code

Run this in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http docta https://docta.dk/mcp

Start Claude Code, type /mcp and choose docta. A browser window opens; log in and approve.

With a personal token instead:

claude mcp add --transport http docta https://docta.dk/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR-TOKEN"

Codex (ChatGPT)

Plain ChatGPT chat can't use Docta. Codex can: in the ChatGPT desktop app, in the Codex CLI and in the Codex extension for your editor. They share the same setup.

In the ChatGPT app: Settings → MCP servers → Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, paste the address, save and restart.

In a terminal: add the server and log in:

codex mcp add docta --url https://docta.dk/mcp
codex mcp login docta

Or with a personal token in ~/.codex/config.toml, with the token in the environment variable DOCTA_TOKEN:

[mcp_servers.docta]
url = "https://docta.dk/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "DOCTA_TOKEN"

With a personal token

For apps that can't log in through a window. Create a token under My account, name it, and copy it straight away: it's shown only once. You can see when each token was last used, and revoke it. Treat the token like a password.

Claude Desktop with a token (not tested by us yet)

Needs Node.js (nodejs.org). Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config, add this and restart Claude Desktop:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "docta": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://docta.dk/mcp",
               "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"],
      "env": { "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer YOUR-TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Does it work?

Ask your AI: "Which courses can you see in Docta?" It should list your courses. Then ask about something in your material; the search results carry links to itslearning.

Your AI gets six tools: search, read a note, list courses, deadlines, what's new and status. It can only read your own library and can't change anything.

If it gets the error "unpaid", your subscription isn't active. If it finds no courses, the extension hasn't synced yet. More help
